KAREN STATE – Local residents reported that there was an exchange of fire between junta lackey Border Guard Forces (BGF) and some Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) forces in Payathonzu Town of Kyainseikgyi Township on May 10, and about 100 people had to flee to Thailand.
It was reported that fighting broke out between KNLA and BGF troops and there were sounds of bomb explosions and firing of small arms and heavy weapons at about 8 a.m. on May 10.
“Firing occurred in the Town. A house was on fire, and then the shooting continued. It lasted about one hour. Then the place was deserted. There were people who fled to Thailand, but most of the people were monitoring the situation. It’s quiet now. They say clash occurred between the BGF and KNU. We don’t know the details,” said a local resident.
About 100 people fled to the Thailand side due to the clash in Payathonzu Town, and when the shooting stopped, about 60 people returned back to the Myanmar side.
In Payathonzu Town, Karen, Mon Ethnic armed groups, junta army and BGF are in action.
