MAGWAY DIVISION- The workers in the field reported that four oil wells in Upper Minhla and Thayet Township in Magway were forced to shut down by the junta on Monday (June 5) and to clear the area and remove machines and equipment by June 6.
Four oil wells; Dahutpin, Htankaing, Tasikauk, and Nalal oil and gas production sites in Magway Division were reportedly forced to close down.
Thousands of people were working at those oil production sites, and millions of kyats were at a deficit when the site was forcefully shut down, said one of the businessmen in this oil production industry.
“I don’t want to talk about the loss. We have to clear the area and remove our things, as we were forced to leave by the next day,” said the businessman.
Nobody was informed why exactly these oil production workplaces were forced to shut down. The junta’s spokesperson for Magway Divison could not also be reached to ask about this matter.
“We lost about forty million kyats due to the forced shut-down of the operation. Starting today, we are collecting and removing our machines and things,” said the informant doing the oil and gas production business.
Locals stated that this deliberate act of the junta regime, shutting down local businesses (oil and gas production operations), is to cause an economic crisis in the region.
The recent shutdown of the Tatma Oil and Gas Production Field in Nyaung Oo Township, Mandalay, on May 21 caused hardships for about a million people (workers and family members) related to that field, stated the locals.
