CHIN STATE – Mindat Township People’s Administration Body (PAB) reported that on Thursday evening (March 21), about 200 schools, religious buildings and houses were damaged due to heavy rain and strong winds in Mindat City, Chin State.
On March 21, from around 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., due to the rain and strong winds in Mindat Township, many homes, schools and religious buildings were destroyed and trees fell and blocked roads.
In the photos released with the report, the damages done to the homes, schools, and religious buildings by the strong winds can be seen, with the upper parts of most of the buildings being ruined. About 200 houses were damaged due to the above natural disaster, said a member of Mindat Township PAB.
“It’s a sudden natural disaster. The local residents are not in good condition, so the situation is worse. There is also the danger of the junta council. The situation is worse when a natural disaster like this happens,” said a Chin defense soldier.
The National Unity Government’s Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management (MOHADM) warned to be aware of the weather situation as there is a chance of rain in some regions as large masses of cloud start to form.
MOHADM explained that due to the prelude to the arrival of the summer monsoon between March 21st and March 23rd, air with water vapor may enter Myanmar and form cloud mountains. The cloud mountain phenomenon can cause sudden strong gusts of winds, lightning and heavy rain.
