WESTERN BAGO DIVISION – Min Hla Township People’s Defence Organization announced on August 23 that they will take serious actions on those found threatening and extorting local people in Min Hla Township.
This was announced after some NLD party members in the eastern and western villages of Min Hla Township received mail threatening them and asking for money. The mail was left in front of their homes.
“The people who have been delivered the threats are afraid, and they also don’t dare to pay. If they pay the money and are caught by the junta council, they will be charged as PDF supporters. They are adding more worries to the people of the village. People’s Defence Force also made a thorough investigation and released the announcement to clarify the public’s opinion,” said the spokesman of the Min Hla Township People’s Defence Organization.
A leak letter of threat asked for 500,000 Kyats needed to buy food saying they have a large number of people and also asked not to inform anyone when sending the money was sent, further warning that it could be dangerous if they found out by others. However, the letter did not mention the sender.
It is reported that this is the first time in Min Hla Township that there has been such threat and demand for money.
In the statement from Min Hla People’s Defence Organization, it was stated that the threat and money demand was not made by the People’s Defence Forces, but by the junta council and its lackeys to create a misunderstanding between the people and the PDF, and that those responsible will be dealt with according to the regulations.
