SHAN STATE – A helpmate of Shan State political prisoners said that there were special reduced sentences for 73 grade A prisoners, 27 grade B prisoners and 7 grade C prisoners for a total of 107 prisoners in Minesat Prison, Eastern Shan State for the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing’s birthday but the political prisoners did not receive reduced sentences.
He added, “It was just for show. It was just for impression and wasn’t strange that it did not include political prisoners. There weren’t any political prisoners pardoned at the Myanmar New Year’s Day either.”
Many Shan politicians and activists were continuously abducted and detained in prisons in Shan State without having their sentences reduced nor given amnesty for over two years after military coup in 2021.
According to the survey released by Assistance Association for Political prisoners last Tuesday (July 4), the junta council abducted more than 19,300 politicians and activists and about 6,700 of them were sentenced to prison while 157 of them were sentenced to death penalty.
