YANGON DIVISION – There was a case of an officer bullying and physically assaulting juniors at the Mingaladon Air Base in Mingaladon Township but the junta council did not take any action for the case and junta officers protected the fellow officer instead, reported Operation Spitfire, a junta Air Force news source.
On February 23, while a warrant officer was working at the industrial department at Mingaladon Air Base, Captain Paing Soe Thu arrived and questioned him on the progress. It escalated to a verbal argument and Captain Paing Soe Thu started assaulting the warrant officer. When the nearby soldiers tried to separate the two, Captain Paing Soe Thu reportedly cursed them out rudely.
Captain Paing Soe Thu who assaulted the warrant officer previously served under the military investigation bureau and led the arrest of CDM staff and soldiers. He had extorted CDM staff, force recruited young people into the military and is also infamous for financial fraud.
In addition, although the warrant officer assaulted in this case reported to the supervising lieutenant colonel, there was no action taken.
“The lieutenant colonel, to prevent harm to his own position and to protect a fellow officer, did not submit the report to the higher ups but kept it to himself,” said Operation Spitfire.
In addition, it is reported that there have been repeated cases of officers bullying juniors at Mingaladon Air Base with the officers treating the juniors as mere slaves. In recent months, there was a similar case of an officer assaulting a junior at Mingaladon Air Base and although the assaulted soldier reported the assault, the higher ups did not take any action and the soldier ended up deserting the air base.
