MANDALAY DIVISION – Local residents said three family members of the owner of an ophthalmology clinic at the corner of 80th Street and 24th Street near Mandalay Palace Moat, in the outskirts of Mandalay were bullied and arrested by the military group, and their properties were sealed off.
The resident said “On August 23 around 4 p.m., the junta group and Pyu Saw Htee group attacked Dr. Mya Than, an ophthalmologist and the owner of the glasses and eye specialist clinic and his wife, Ms. Myint Myat Khaing, an associate professor of University of Distance Education who joined CDM, on 24th street between 80th and 81st streets, Aung Myay Thar San Township, Mandalay. Another male family member was also beaten and arrested.”
“The Doctor’s family always join events for free eye treatments. Their clinic is also generous in treating them. It’s a really peaceful family. The doctor must have been arrested because his wife joined CDM movement” said a resident.
The local said that the clinic that was sealed off by junta is worth tens of thousands lakh of kyats. Regarding the bullying and arrest, the junta group and Pyu Saw Htee group celebrated their victory by spreading the news on Telegram that the family was arrested for supporting PDFs.
Residents said that the junta group has been arresting businessmen in Mandalay, sealing their houses, and at the behest of military lobbies.
In the past few days, the military group arrested four women, including the family and close relatives of a businessman in Chan Aye Tha San Township, Mandalay, and sealed off a home worth tens of thousands lakh on 80th street. The founder and teachers of a famous private school in Maha Aung Myun Township were arrested and the school on the 78th Street was closed and sealed off as well.
Junta lobbies are celebrating their victory by saying that there are more than 30 local people arrested by the junta group in Mandalay this August.
