MANDALAY DIVISION- Residents of Mandalay said that street vendors in three streets were forced to close down temporarily, saying that there was a VIP route of the Military Council.
Along (64th) and (66th) streets in Mandalay, the military council members insisted that the stalls, betel shops, and gasoline stalls on both sides of the road must be closed on May 7 and 8 since there is a VIP route.
“They said there was a VIP route. They tear down shelters and tents by force and are also cleaning up the garbage,” said a vendor.
Similarly, in the north of Mandalay, the residents said that the military council was asking the (street food) stalls along the (76) road to be closed for 5 days.
During beginning of May, some stalls at the road sections in Amarapura Township were forced to close overnight stating that there was a VIP route.
After the military coup, the street stalls were forced to close, the platforms were painted, trees were trimmed and the roads were cleaned if there were VIP routes, just like the times in the previous military regime.
