MANDALAY DIVISION – According to the locals, the junta council is planning to hold the Thadingyut lighting festival on 66th street, on the eastern part of the moat, Mandalay city.
Mandalay City Development Committee (MCDC) under the military regime, is advertising in the newspaper that the lighting festival and the other events will be held along 66th street, on the eastern part of the moat, in Mandalay city, on October 29 and 30 and invite the civilians to visit and enjoy the festival.
The locals mentioned that the leaders of the coup council will attend the lighting festival and the business men were also invited to the festival.
The locals mentioned that “the coup council sent enforced invitations to all of the businessmen in the city.”
It was known that the junta council set up the sentry posts around the moat. The armed junta council troops and the Pyu Saw Htee militants extorted the civilians all over the city.
A local mentioned that “two junta council guards were set up every two blocks around the moat. Many hidden sentry posts in plain clothes were set up in Kyauk Taw Gyi pagoda festival event. The people in the festival are not as crowded as before.”
After the bomb explosion in the Kyauk Taw Gyi pagoda festival which was located at the northeast corner of the moat, in the foothill of Mandalay hill, near 12th street and 66th street, on October 25, the number of the visitors were significantly decreased.
The junta council is spending money over the festivals and the traditional events across the country to propagandize that the civilians are happy under the military regime.
Moreover, the junta council announced that the curfew which was declared in Mandalay division will be lifted starting from October 27 except for Madaya, Singu, Thabeikkyin and Mogok.
