MANDALAY DIVISION – Police sources told the media that eight passenger Express Buses from Ma-Hta-Tha (Motor Transportation Authority) were forcefully hired to send the trainee policemen to Zepingyi Police Academy for shooting practice coming November 2.
Fifty trainees from the Investigating Officer (Special) course and 298 trainees from the investigative officer course, 348 trainees in total will be sent to the Zepingyi practice shooting range for on-site training, in eight express buses which could carry 49 people each.
Police sources said, “The Police Officer Training School is renting eight express buses for shooting training. In fact, it is more like hijacking. The police department requested letters from the Mandalay Region government office to instruct the express bus service providers to rent the buses to them at a discount.”
In addition to 348 trainees, 40 members of the Army (a total of 388 people) will be visiting the Zeipingyi gun shooting range.
According to police sources, they are concerned about landmine attacks if they travel by police Faw cars and military vehicles, so they are traveling under disguise using express buses. A police source said that the trainees are very worried that they would be attacked along the road from Mandalay to Zepingyi.
“If they go in military vehicles, they might be targeted and attacked with landmines. There were so many landmine attacks in the past and thus they planned to go in Express (passanger) buses. If a passenger car is hit by a landmine, it could be announced that civilians were attacked (by the opposing resistance forces). That’s why when the convoy moves or someone needs to travel, they only travel in passenger cars lately,” said a police source in Mandalay.
