SHAN STATE – According to local sources, soldiers of the military council stationed at the border of Shan – Karenni States fired at each other, resulting in casualties.
The shooting, which took place in the morning of June 21, was said to have taken place on Lwalmakuu Mountain at the eastern side of Pekon.
“It’s almost certain that it happened. It happened when they were drunk and split into two sides. At least seven were injured and there was also a death,” said a resident of Pekon.
He also informed that when the incident happened, the army of the military council from Pekon was sent to the mountain to replace the troops.
“I heard of the incident but can’t tell the exact details yet. We are still investigating the details,” explained a member of Pekon PDF.
He said that the junta council has been stationed at Lwalmakuu Mountain since December 2022 and has about 40 forces.
On May 4, the commander of junta light infantry battalion 530 was shot and killed by a soldier at Hteesalkhar Gate at the border of Shan – Karenni States, and the soldier also committed suicide.
