AYEYARWADDY DIVISION – The junta department staff and ward administration officers in Maupin have been forcibly selling the boxing match tickets for department funds, according to residents.
A festival for Tabaung will be held in Maupin on March 24 and junta department staff included boxing matches to be held in the sports hall during the festival. Then the junta staff and administration officers are selling tickets to those boxing matches, going from door to door.
“It’s 10,000 Kyats per ticket and they are forcing the people to buy two or three tickets after checking the status of the house. It just adds on more burden to the people who are troubled by the financial difficulties in these hard times. The people scared by the conscription law could not avoid buying it. Rather than the festival, the junta staff are using it for their own benefits,” said a resident.
In addition, local residents reported that the general administration department and ward administration officers in Maupin Township have been using the conscription law to extort the people and demand payments from those who don’t wish to be conscripted.
