AYEYAWADDY DIVISION – Locals reported that the military council forces are forcing the administrators in Maupin Township to provide 30 manpower per village.
There are 88 village tracts in Maupin Township, and the military council is threatening to provide thirty men per village.
“Each village has to provide 30 men (for military). How can we find the volunteers? Some were just barely surviving and have their work to do. I told the military forces to come and see for themselves and arrest (take by force) whoever go out late at night,” said a village administrator who did not want to be named.
In the last week of last September, in Nyaungdon, Pantanaw, Kyaiklatt and Maupin Townships, the military council forces took some villagers as porters, and on November 19, more than ten youths were arrested and taken away by the military council forces in Mawlamyaingkyun Township for no reason, reported the locals.
“These thirty people they asked for are not for volunteer services or temporary assignments. They are planning to send them to a pit of death. Military council troops are dying everywhere and they are forcing civilians to join the army since they are getting weaker. I couldn’t do anything for those arrestees for going out at night (after curfew period),” the administrator added.
