MYANMAR – In the appreciation notice by the junta council for the Anaykazar (consecration) Ceremony of Marawizaya Buddha statue published in junta controlled papers, the junta council left out Venerable Kyaukme Abbot who gestured with his three fingers raised while delivering sermons, featuring the junta subservient Sittagu Monk instead.
During the August 1 ceremony, Kyaukme Abbot Venerable Baddanta Sandana Thara, the Padarna Chair of Thiho Pariyatti Monastery in Kyaukme, northern Shan State and vice chair of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, delivered sermons to the terrorist junta chief Min Aung Hlaing and his generals, raising three fingers when explaining the three items of Dhamma as taught by Buddha.
The venerable abbot at the event explained the three items of Dhamma: to not do bad deeds, to do good deeds and to keep one’s mind pure while raising up his three fingers and the people are saying how that must have hit the sore points of Min Aung Hlaing and his generals.
In the appreciation notice by the junta council, Venerable Baddanta Sandana Thara was completely left out and only mentioned monks led by Sittagu Monk.
“Leaving out the vice chair of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, Kyaukme Abbot Venerable Baddanta Sandana Thara, must have to do with his sermon that did not sit well with the junta leaders. He holds the most senior position in the Sangha committee after the chair of committee Venerable Abbot passed away. It was very obvious,” said a senior journalist.
