MYANMAR: Since junta seized the power from February 1, 2021 to April 18, 2023, there were mine attacks across the country in 305 days. Junta forces were attacked with mines several times, which caused the death of (1188) soldiers, as mentioned in the report of Burma News International – Myanmar Peace Monitor (MPM) on May 10.
MPM took the record of mine attack based on the daily reports per township, so the numbers of the actual on ground data could be more than the list mentioned.
As Sagaing division stands first in terms of junta forces being attacked with mines by (139) days, Magway division stand second with (51) days and Mandalay division stands third with (30) days, over 73% of mines attack to junta forces are in Sagaing, Magway and Mandalay division.
Comparing the data of mine attacks per year and month, there were 75 times in 2021 and December was the month of the year with the most number of mine attacks.
In 2022, there were (162) days when junta forces were attacked with mines. May was the month with the most number of attacks with mines. Till April 18, 2023, there were (68) days when junta forces were attacked with mins as mentioned in the record.
People Defence Forces from mountain ranges and urban regions have performed mines attacks (279) days with over 91%.
Similarly, Ethnic Revolutionary Organizations such as Kachin Independence Organization/Kachin Independence Army (KIO/KIA) has performed 14 days, Karen national Union/ Karen National Liberation Army (KNU/KNLA) has performed 11 days and United League of Arakan /Arakan Army (ULA/AA) has performed a day to attack junta forces with mines, as mentioned in the record.
MPM said that defence military movements such as mine attacking tactics or mines missions are the central tactics.
