KACHIN STATE – Locals reported that there were more security checks by junta troops after they declared curfew in Mohnyin Township, starting last Thursday (June 8).
Security has tightened since the junta regime declared curfew time from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. on June 8.
“The soldiers in civvies went around the town at night and a few days ago they stopped and checked a couple on a motorbike just after 9 p.m.,” said a local.
Regarding curfew law 144, it is banned to gather more than five people in public places (including parks, lanes, and on the roads) and not go out during curfew time (10 p.m. to 4 a.m.).
The curfew law was issued once on April 4 in Mohnyin Township and this is the second time the law is issued within a year.
The junta council stated that the curfew order is issued again as some people in the region are taking actions to harm the public’s security and the law and order. Until any order is issued, this curfew statement would not be lifted, stated the junta regime.
Last May, in Mohnyin Township, a battle broke out between the junta forces and KIA+PDF joint forces in Namar Township that forced locals to flee.
