SHAN STATE – Locals found the dead bodies of two men shot dead by junta council troops at a house in Sikar Ward of Mobye, Southern Shan State last Friday (June 9).
The two men are said to be brothers who were residents of Sikar Ward No. 2. They were stuck inside the town after junta forces blocked the entry and exist points to the town and were shot dead when discovered by junta soldiers.
One resident explained, “the terrorist junta army killed the two civilians from Sikar 2 Ward in Mobye for no reasons yesterday (June 8). We only managed to recover the bodies of those two brothers who were stuck inside the town today.”
The military situation remains tense between Mobye People’s Defence Force and the junta council troops. The junta forces have blocked the entrance and exit to the town, restricted the inflow of food and also made arbitrary arrests.
In addition, a local woman said that there are also civilians stuck inside the town who cannot leave due to not having their own motorcycles or cars and there is no one bringing them out.
Just in the first week of June, the reckless shelling by junta forces resulted in seven civilian casualties in Mobye. Locals believe that there could be higher casualties if a confrontation breaks out as the town has been blocked off.
