SHAN STATE- In Southern Shan State, Pekhon Township, the military council troops stationed at Mobye town were firing heavy weapons on Saturday morning (August 19) and that the people were panicking, stated a resident.
The investigations are still ongoing as to the damage and causalities to the houses and locals of Mobye’s Nyaungwine Quarter and its neighborhood that had been attacked by junta’s heavy weapon fire.
“The junta troops are arbitrarily opening fire and not letting locals to work in the fields. I don’t know what they are opening fire at,” said a resident.
In the past few days, junta troops reportedly checked the guest list and convinced people to come back home but now they aren’t allowing them to go work in the fields.
“They are the ones who told us to come back and now they are haunting us (opening fire). Civilians don’t know what to do anymore,” said a resident.
On August 18, more than 100 military personnel were seen entering the Infantry Battalion (422) based in Mobye, and this could be reinforcements or a change in formation, commented the locals.
