CHIN STATE – A spokesperson of Chin Defense Force (CDF) said that due to the Cyclone Mocha, there was a lot of damages in the areas under the control of CDF and there is an urgent need for shelters.
It was reported that nearly 230 houses in the villages of the CDF controlled area were damaged due to the storm hit on May 14. He said the damage could be more due to communication difficulties make it difficult to collect the actual data.
“The most difficult thing is that we need shelters. There are few house collapses but most houses lost the roofs. No matter how much money we have right now, it is very difficult to buy zinc roofs. We are totally fine even if we can get rainproof vinyl or tarpaulin right now. Our battalion camps are also in ruin,” said the CDF spokesperson.
He said that if the shelters are not provided in time, they will face many difficulties during the upcoming rainy season. To repair damaged houses, religious buildings, schools and to provide aids to people affected by the storm, such as shelter materials and other emergency aid is needed, including food and medicine, CDF said in a separate statement.
CDF also appeals to international organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs/INGOs) and community-based organizations to provide assistance.
The People’s Administration Body of Chin State also announced that many residential buildings, including 150 granaries, were destroyed, and food is urgently needed.
