CHIN STATE – Mindat Township People’s Administration Body (PAB) issued a statement on May 19 saying that the buildings from 24 villages in Mindat Township, Chin State were destroyed by Cyclone Mocha.
It was reported that almost 600 houses, 94 governmental buildings, religious buildings and 153 barns were damaged and 13 cattle were killed, according to the data compiled as of May 19.
“The list of damages, mainly the sections related to the people’s administration, have been sent from the villages and the prefectures to the People’s Administration Body. Since three days ago, we have started the repair works which we can do with our labor, such as renovations and construction,” said Mr. Salai Ha Om, the accountable person of Chin Defence Force (CDF).
He continued that they are also trying to get the required humanitarian aid. “Even though our loss is quite large, we don’t have confidence to ask for help in comparison to Rakhine. I would like to appeal to the civilians to assist the places that were affected by Cyclone Mocha,” said Mr. Salai Ha Om.
Mindat People’s Administration Body stated that they urgently need rice and rations and it was also stated that they are facing difficulties in transporting the necessary medications and the other goods as the roads and dirt roads have collapsed.
It was also included in the statement that farmers could face difficulties in the next monsoon season as their farms and barns were destroyed during the storm.
It was also stated that the number of damages are still being collected on the ground and additional lists will be announced.
