RAKHINE STATE – The locals said that the tin roof sheets supplied by the junta council to the villages of Pan Pae Chaung, Lanpitekwin and Mee Yap Pyin in Pan Pae Chaung Village Tract of Yoechaung Region in Kyauktaw, Rakhine State, were plain old junk and are of no use.
On June 2, junta supported 50 tin sheets, 16 tins of rice (1 tin ~ 40kg), ten 1 litre bottles of cooking oil, six cartons of dried noodles, one roll of tarpaulin and sanitary pads for each village.
The villages in Pan Pae Chaung Village Tract had about 200 houses and as the supported things were insufficient, the villagers had to allocate by lot.
A local from Mee Yap Pyin Village said, “Although we got the support, it was of no use. The tin sheets had holes and were just useless junk. We didn’t get anything because there weren’t enough items supplied and had to be allocated by lot.”
Nearly all 200 houses of Mee Yap Pyin Village were destroyed, with only five houses left standing. The monastery as well as the school were also destroyed and as a result of that, more than three hundred school-aged children are unable to attend the school.
