MANDALAY DIVISION – The junta soldiers raided villages in Singu and murdered two internally displaced persons (IDPs).
In Mandalay Division, the junta soldiers raided villages along the Ayeyarwaddy River on May 12 and sought refuge at Pyu Saw Htee camps when Cyclone Mocha hit. After the cyclone’s impact, they resumed raiding the villages on Monday, May 15, forcing the residents of seven villages to flee.
The junta soldiers, who were stationed at the house of the Pyu Saw Htee leader from Yay Taw Village, fired heavy artillery shells at the monastery in Htee Kone Village on Monday evening, May 15, killing two elderly individuals who were attempting to escape, according to Major King from the Ground Scout.
“On Monday, around 5 p.m., two artillery shells from the junta forces exploded inside the monastery, killing two men. We couldn’t determine their exact ages, but they were elderly. Currently, the junta soldiers are in Yay Taw Village and Dog Islands,” said Major King.
The civilians from Htone Gyi, Yay Chan, Yay Taw, Se The, Htee Kone, Thayarwaddy, and Mya Sein Villages are fleeing due to the junta’s offensive. On May 14, the junta soldiers, who arrived at the house of the Pyu Saw Htee leader in Htone Gyi Village, recklessly fired heavy artillery shells on the west side of the river.
The junta’s reckless behavior injured a civilian from Tharyarwaddy Village in Singu Region, according to the Ground Scout. Since May 12, around 100 junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee have been raiding villages in Singu Region, and currently, they are in Yay Taw Village and the island to the west of Yay Taw Village.
The junta soldiers have been looting items, abducting civilians, extorting money, and destroying improvised boats used to transport buffaloes and cattle in various villages alongside the river in Singu and Thabeikkyin Regions.
