MYANMAR – The spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary General said again on May 22 that the UN agencies are still waiting for permission from the atrocious junta regime to send emergency relief aid for the people in Cyclone Mocha-affected areas.
The UN said that they have enough information about the extent of damages in the severe tropical storm-affected areas after one week.
Sittwe and Rathedaung townships in Rakhine State were severely affected by the storm, and houses, clinics, hospitals, and school buildings were crashed by Cyclone Mocha.
It was reported that the villages along the beach in Rathedaung and Maungdaw townships have been heavily destroyed and have lost cattle.
Moreover, there is a shortage of essential items for daily living, and it is difficult to access safe drinking water.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) has announced that they have been engaging with the junta’s government officials in Nay Pyi Taw to aid emergency relief items for cyclone-affected people, and they have planned to distribute relief materials to the storm-affected areas in Rakhine and Chin states within two weeks.
In 2008, the UN Secretary General had to go and ask for the permission of the murderous junta regime to support emergency relief items for Cyclone Nargis-affected people in the Delta Region.
