MYANMAR – Over 100 political prisoners who were transferred from Monywa Prison to Oh Bo Prison in Mandalay were beaten upon entering the prison, according to Mr. Theik Tun Oo from All Myanmar Political Prisoners Network.
On August 15 and 16, 90 male and 11 female political prisoners, a total of 101 prisoners, were transferred from Monywa Prison to Oh Bo Prison.
According to Mr. Theik Tun Oo, the news that political prisoners were beaten at the entrance of Oh Bo Prison is based on the witness accounts and the news sent from inside the prison.
“They beat them as soon as they entered the prison. Prisoners transferred prisons are subjected to more torture,” said Mr. Theik Tun Oo.
It is reported that some of the political prisoners had to be admitted to the prison hospital for treatment due to the beatings.
