SAGAING DIVISION – An official of the Political Prisoners’ Network Myanmar said that after the hunger strike in Monywa prison reached the count of 50 political prisoners, a photo campaign and lecture was held in a village in Sagaing Division on September 12th in support of the strike.
He said that 14 people started a hunger strike at Monywa prison on September 8, and 36 more protestors joined the hunger strike on September 11, bringing the total number of protesters to 50.
“They are members of our network. We are currently explaining to the villagers about the persecution and torture in the prison in Sagaing Division,” he said.
It is reported that the protestors are demanding three things, to take responsibility for solving the health issues of the prisoners on hunger strike, to return the belongings of the prisoners seized by the special search team and to allow the delivery of letters and care packages to the prison from outside.
Imprisoned Monywa strike leader Mr. Wai Moe Naing was also reported to be among the protesters.
