KAREN STATE – In Mu Township, Khalelluihtu District, Brigade 3 territory in Karen National Union (KNU) Kaw Thoo Lei Administrative Region, a 14-year-old boy was reportedly killed when the terrorist junta council troops opened fire on the villages in Mu Township, and nearly 14,000 people were forced to flee for their lives, the KNU center announced on May 20.
It was mentioned in the statement that at 8:00 a.m. on May 18, the combined forces of junta LIB 599, LIB 590, Division 44 and IB 48, in order to enter Sawai Village and Kyuntaw Village in Mu Township, continuously fired 25 rounds of heavy weapons into the village, and five more rounds of heavy weapons were fired into Nyaung Pinthar Village.
It is reported that the people living in the village ran away, frightened by the shooting of the heavy weapon and 14-year-old Maung Min Ye Set was hit and killed by an artillery shell. 47-year-old Ms. Hla San and 18-year-old Mr. Myint Myat Thu were also hit and injured. The injured residents were taken to the nearby hospital and clinic.
On Saturday (May 20), the terrorist junta army was still stationed at Sawai and Kyuntaw Villages, informed the KNU center.
The terrorist junta council’s Infantry Battalion 60 had fired six rounds of heavy weapons into the village of Hnaunggone on May 16, and fie rounds of heavy weapons into the village of Taungsu on May 17, according to the KNU center.
Due to the deliberate firing of heavy weapons by terrorist junta forces at the villages inhabited by civilians, the KNU center reported that 13,991 people from nine villages in Mu Township namely Sawai, Hnaunggone, Taungsu, Kyuntaw, Nyaungping-hsate, Myaungyoegyi, Ywarhaung, Tatkone and Nyaung Pinthar, are running for their lives.
