RAKHINE STATE – Locals with knowledge of the military situation reported that the Arakan Army (AA) has captured the junta council camp at 4 miles in Maungdaw Township on May 22 evening.
Said junta camp is the headquarters of junta border guard battalion 2 and was captured by AA as it accelerated its offensive to capture Maungdaw after successfully capturing Buthitaung.
“After capturing Buthitaung, AA accelerated its offensive on Maungdaw. The fighting was extremely fierce there. It is said that AA captured the four mile camp last evening (May 22). But it can only be confirmed if AA releases an announcement,” said a person who is aware of the military situation.
Although there are reports that AA has captured the 4 mile camp, it is yet to be officially confirmed by AA. Meanwhile, there is also a video spreading online, allegedly of the weapons confiscated by AA at the Maungdaw 4 mile camp.
AA has captured several junta bases in Maungdaw Township including the town of Taungpyo and the junta base there in the past few months, only leaving Mawyati Tactical Hill, Myothugyi border guard battalion 5 police station, Alelthankyaw Camp, Indin border guard battalion 6, Myinhlut border guard battalion 9 and 4 mile border guard battalion 2. And now, AA is reported to have captured the 4 mile camp.
