RAKHINE STATE- According to residents, a shootout occurred at the 6-mile camp on the Maungdaw-Buthidaung road last Thursday (September 7), around 7 p.m., and a military council soldier was reportedly injured.
“Yesterday around 7:00 p.m., when two men on a motorcycle drove by the 6-mile gate, the soldiers at the checkpoint shot at them and they returned fire, a junta soldier was reportedly injured,” said a resident of Maungdaw.
There are two 6-mile checkpoints on the Maungdaw-Buthidaung road, and the one where the shooting happened is the 6-mile checkpoint close to Maungdaw and motorcycles are not allowed to pass through this checkpoint after 7:00 p.m.
A Maungdaw resident who also is an analyst predicted that “The current shooting could not be done by armed revolution forces but could be drug-dealing gangs.”
According to local residents, the junta troops arrived at the scene the next morning (September 8) by car and on foot and searched nearby residential villages (such as 4 miles and 3 miles villages).
