MON STATE – Residents told the media that three inmates detained at Mupon police station broke out from the prison and took two guns and the police were injured in an exchange of fire last Wednesday (April 17).
On April 17, at around noon, three inmates detained at the police station broke free after taking two guns and there was an exchange fire.
“Three inmates grabbed the guns and escaped from Mupon police station in Mawlamyine. A police sergeant was shot in the exchange of fire that ensued,” said a resident.
One of the escaped prisoners was rumoured to have been shot dead by the police in front of the station but it is yet to be confirmed. At the moment, two prisoners are escaping with weapons, so the neighborhoods in Mawlamyine are blocked for inspections and searches, according to residents.
