SAGAING DIVISION – Local residents reported that junta troops set fire to the village of Aung Myo Thar also known as Taung Mhwar Village in Ayardaw Township.
On the morning of May 23, when the junta troops arrived at Aung Myo Tha Village, the local revolutionary forces defended against them and a skirmish ensued. After that, the junta council sent reinforcements in three trucks and three small cars. On the morning of May 24, the junta troops, in full force, set fire to the village. They reportedly used gas ignited flamethrowers to torch the houses in the village.
“Since yesterday (May 23) morning, the junta forces arrived at the village monastery. This morning, even though the monks from the village requested them not to set fire to the village, they proceeded to torch the houses. They were using some kind of flamethrower using gas. Most of the villagers fled into the forest in advance, but those who could not run are trapped in the village. Now, one of the people who remained in the village because they could not run away is said to be injured,” said a local resident.
In recent days, the terrorist junta army has been deploying many tactical columns to launch offensives in the townships in Sagaing Division, including Ayardaw Township, and increasing the speed of their attacks, resulting in tens of thousands of civilians being forced to flee to avoid the war.
