MANDALAY DIVISION – A political prisoner in his 40s died with signs of physical torture at Myingyan Prison in recent days, reported Mr. Thet Tun Oo, an official from Political Prisoners Network.
The deceased is reported to be 43-year-old Mr. Sein Win from Magyeesu Village in Myingyan Township who was sentenced to three years in prison under article 505(a).
His family was informed by the prison that Mr. Sein Win passed away from peptic ulcer disease on July 2, one day after his death.
However, there were signs of physical torture found on the body, said Mr. Thet Tun Oo. The body was also said to be buried as per the prison’s arrangements.
Mr. Sein Win was a healthy farmer with no health complications before his arrest last year.
Myingyan Prison is especially notorious for oppressing and torturing political prisoners. Last May, over a dozen political prisoners in Myingyan Prison were brought out and subjected to physical torture and interrogation for nearly a week.
