KACHIN STATE – According to the All Myanmar Political Prisoners Network (PPNM), one of the injured prisoners was killed in the shooting and crackdown of a protest in Myitkyina Prison in Kachin State.
The deceased prisoner is 28-year-old Ko Yame Bom, who died of injuries sustained during the crackdown.
He reportedly died on April 21st, 3 days after a prison protest was crushed on April 18th.
“One whose life is in danger has passed away, and there will be five who need emergency medical treatment,” said Ko Theik Tun Oo, an official of the All Myanmar Political Prisoners Network (PPNM).
It is said that the deceased prisoner was incarcerated under a different section, not a political one.
On April 17, Myanmar’s New Year’s Day, the military council released more than 3,000 prisoners.
In the press release of the junta council about the Myitkyina Prison incident, they said the reason for the shooting was that the prisoners were fighting against the prison authorities.
The military council reported that 4 prisoners were killed and 8 wounded during the shootout.
There are 2 political prisoners among the dead prisoners.
