KACHIN STATE – Former KBC chairman Dr. Hkalam Samson, who was unjustly sentenced to 6 years in Myitkyina Prison of the War on Terrorism Council, was released on parole on April 17 and was re-arrested by the military at midnight, according to a source close to the family.
“They came at night. He was taken away by junta soldiers coming in a lot of military vehicles. They didn’t say they are arresting him but only bring him to discuss something. Now we know that he has not been released until this morning (April 18),” said a source close to the family.
The War on Terror Council sentenced Dr. Hkalam Samson to a total of 6 years in prison in April 2023 including 2 years in prison under Article 17(1) of the Unlawful Association Law, 1 year in prison with 505(a), 3 years under Section 52(a) of the Anti-Terrorism Act and was detained in Myitkyina Prison.
On December 5th, 2022, Rev. Dr Hkalam Samson was arrested at Mandalay Airport while he was waiting for his flight to Thailand, and then he was imprisoned.
