KACHIN STATE – A student’s parent, who did not wish to be named, reported that a new student, enrolling at the No. 4 Basic Education High School in the junta council’s Northern Command compound in Myitkyina City, has to pay 100,000 kyats.
“One new student is charged 100,000 kyats. I enrolled my grandson there and had to pay 100,000 kyats as a donation,” he said.
The current principal of No. 4 High School is Major Kyaw Zeya Hlaing, who graduated from the Defense Services Academy. The parent of the student said that a middle school teacher was asked to collect donations from new students.
“We had to pay 300,000 kyats, 100,000 each for our nephew and two nieces,” said a resident who asked to remain anonymous.
Last 2022-2023 academic year, in B.E.H.S.(4), fifty thousand kyats was collected per new student, and this year, it was increased by an additional fifty thousand kyats.
