MYANMAR – Vice President of the United States, Ms. Kamala Harris said during her meeting with the ASEAN leaders at the ASEAN Summit that the U.S. will continue to exert efforts in order to get Myanmar back on the route to Democracy.
Ms. Harris attended the ASEAN Summit in place of President Joe Biden who is in India to attend the G-20 Summit.
Ms. Harris said at the September 6 summit that her nation will continue working to push Myanmar, embroiled in conflicts following the military coup, back on the road to democracy.
She also announced and confirmed a program to establish a new U.S-ASEAN center in Washington D.C.
The seat representing Myanmar was left empty as usual during the meeting of the U.S. Vice President and ASEAN leaders. ASEAN has decided to not invite the junta council to all meetings as the junta regime failed to comply with the five ASEAN consensus two years back.
