INDIA – It has been reported that India has urged Myanmar to return to the path to all inclusive federalism.
The battles against the junta council are escalating around the country. And the conflicts in Rakhine State left impacts on India. On March 15, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India issued that they believe that the current conflicts in Myanmar can only be solved through constructive dialogue between the various groups and could return to the path to federalism.
Ranhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India, mentioned that India wishes neighbouring Myanmar to return to a peaceful and stable democratic system.
At the same time, he continued that as the current situation in Rakhine State is complicated and delicate, he warned his citizens not to travel to Rakhine State.
He has also strongly urged his citizens not to travel to Myanmar due to the dangerous security situation as well as the ongoing battles currently breaking out around the country.
Jaiswal added that the India government is desirous of rebuilding peace and stability in Myanmar and the government will encourage the constructive dialogue which includes multi-groups.
Since the military coup in the start of February, 2021, the resistance movement is gaining momentum across Myanmar and starting from November 2023, the battles became intensified in the regions on the border of Myanmar and India.
India is one of the countries which has a diplomatic relationship with the coup council after the coup in Myanmar. Tom Andrew, the special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, mentioned that India is one out of a few countries which sells weapons to the junta council even after the coup. Therefore, it (India) was criticized for helping the military dictators in the name of Democracy.
Myanmar and India share a 1,640 meter long border. According to the geographic economics, Myanmar stands as an important country in the strategy of improving relationships with the east Asian neighbours by India.
