MYANMAR – Mr. Kyaw Moe Tun, the permanent representative of Myanmar to the United Nations, submitted to the United Nations Disarmament Commission (UNDC) that the one way to put a stop to the atrocities of the Myanmar terrorist army is through an arms embargo on the army.
The ambassador said this at the 2024 general assembly of the UNCD held at the United Nations New York Office on April 2.
He mentioned that Myanmar, being a country suffering from the human rights violations of the terrorist army, is well aware of the terrible humanitarian consequences and the effects on the civilians that the spread of weapons can have and described how the Myanmar junta is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity on the innocent civilians using the fighter jets, armaments, cannons, heavy artillery and related technologies imported from certain nations.
He pointed out that Myanmar fully supports the establishment of nuclear free zones as a signatory of the Treaty of Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone and that it will be of help to the nuclear weapon disarmament program and the common goal of disarming nuclear weapons.
The 2024 general assembly of the UNDC will be held from April 1 to 19.
