MYANMAR – The National Unity Government (NUG) Ministry of Human Rights announced that a diplomatic briefing on Myanmar issues was held at the United Nations, urging to deny all efforts of the junta council to gain legitimacy and to find ways to enforce accountability for human rights situations.
The diplomatic briefing was held at the UN Palais de nations on March 8 to the international diplomats and ambassadors regarding the report on human rights in Myanmar and requests to the international community. At the briefing, the situation of human rights violations by the terrorist junta council in Myanmar, the cooperation between the ethnic armed organisations and democracy forces and the status of territory control and the process on civilian governance and rule of law were presented.
Moreover, the international community was requested to target and sanction the flow of arms and finance to the junta council, to direct the financial and technological assistance and human rights aids to the NUG and ethnic organisations, to continue to enforce the items on UNSC Resolution 2669, to absolutely deny all attempts by the junta regime to gain legitimacy, and the United Nations was urged to exert more pressure for the Myanmar affairs.
In addition, the human rights council was urged to find new means to enforce accountability for human rights situations in Myanmar and the UN General Secretary was also urged to push for an amendment to a process report of the UN agencies in Myanmar.
The briefing was attended by Union Minister Aung Myo Min, NUG representative to France Ms. Nan Su Mon Aung and advisor to the NUG Ministry of Human Rights, Mr. Jar Baid Ahlaum and it was said to have been held in cooperation with the Luxembourg embassy and International IDEA.
