AYEYARWADDY DIVISION – Over ten motorcycle taxi drivers were reported to have been arbitrarily detained by the junta soldiers in Myan Aung Township on July 27, accused of association with the PDF (People’s Defence Force).
The detainees are villagers from Mhyinwahtaung Village Tract and Bantbway Kone Village in Myan Aung Township, according to residents.
“The number of detainees crept over ten. Most of them are motorcycle taxi drivers. They usually deal with passengers going shopping. They are just ordinary civilians. And yet they were arrested on baseless accusations. There were people arrested in the past few days also. The junta forces are always searching the nearby forests for PDF members,” shared a resident of Mhyinwahtaung Village.
It is known from the locals that the junta council has previously abducted a young man on July 21 and a 70-year-old woman at Oukkyin Ward in Bantbway Kone on July 24.
Moreover, junta forces are known to conduct monthly searches into the forests in Myan Aung and Kyangin Townships in Ayeyarwaddy Division that are located next to the Rakhine Yoma ranges for PDF camps.
