KAREN STATE – The people working at the gambling town of Shwekokko in Myawaddy Township had to pay 8,991 Baht for town development and were informed that they will also have to pay 19,888 Baht in March, according to the people working there.
The collection of 8,991 baht started on February 7 and the news of having to pay 19,888 baht on March 15 is causing difficulties for the people working there, shared the employees working at the companies in Shwekokko Myaing.
“The young people working in Shwekokko already had to pay 8,991 Baht for region development. I had to pay personally. After collecting 8,991 Baht, now we’re being told that we will have to pay an additional 19,888 Baht within one month,” said a person working in Shwekokko.
Shwekokko Town is mainly administered by the Border Guard Forces under Colonel Saw Chit Thu and it is said that there is currently strict security around the entire town.
