TANINTHARYI DIVISION – Myeik People’s Defence Team (PDT) released a statement, warning travelers to not travel on the Myeik-Tanintharyi Pyidaungsu Highway between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. starting Friday (May 12).
The PDT explained that the usage of the highway is restricted as the junta council has been using civilian vehicles to transport rations and junta convoys are also traveling while taking cover behind civilian vehicles.
The information officer of Myeik PDT said, “We want to inform the public that we prioritize the safety of civilians when conducting missions. That’s why we’d also like to request the civilians to stay away from junta convoys.”
Currently in Tanintharyi Township, even though the junta council has been launching offensives, there has not been direct conflicts between the two sides yet.
Just recently, shrapnel from a mine attack on a junta convoy near Ban La Mout Village on the Pyidaungsu Highway is said to have damaged a civilian vehicle that was following close to the attacked junta convoy.
In addition, the PDT also requested the public to not cover their vehicles with tarpaulin and to have the windows rolled down when driving on the highway.
The PDT warned that it will not be responsible for any damages resulting from failing to comply with the above requests, adding that there will be no changes to the restrictions until a new statement is released to update the situation.
