RAKHINE STATE- Locals reported that Arakan Army (AA) has launched an offensive towards Mrauk-U Myoma police station and junta’s military base and fighting intensified.
The clash broke out at about 3:50 a.m. on December 24 at the Mrauk-U Myoma police station and the battle continued until the time of reporting. In addition, there was also on going battle at Thutawma Hill where fascist army stationed, a local resident of Mrauk-U said.
“We started hearing gunshots around dawn. They are still shooting. It seems that the AA advanced Myoma police station and Thutawma Hill, where the military council troops are stationed. Heavy weapons were also fired continuously. Residents are worried about what will happen next,” he said.
Heavy weapons fired by the junta council’s troops said to have landed in to Taung Yat and Sinchaseik wards, and resulted damage to houses and casualities to people and animals.
Locals said that many residents have fled the Mrauk-U Town due to the fighting between the two sides. “They have been fleeing since battles started. Many people have left the town. As the fighting are intensifying, people are worried of barbaric junta’s airstrikes towards the town.”
In recent days, there have been clashes between the Arakan Army against the fascist junta army in Mrauk-U, and junta troops faced casualties.
