KAREN STATE – Although the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA)-led revolutionary forces captured the military council’s strategic hill and light infantry battalion (LIB) 357 in Thingannyinaung, Myawaddy on Friday (April 5), the clash is still going on as the military regime has been launching aerial attacks and sending backups, stated a military news source.
Starting the late night of April 4, the battle has been intense and the military launched aerial attacks until the next morning. At around noon, the strategic hill and LIB -357 were reportedly occupied by KNLA and allied forces.
“Some military council forces have surrendered. A few heavy weapons and small arms have been seized, but the situation is not completely secure. Junta reinforcements are coming and their air attacks are also non-stop,” the military source explained.
In the battle to take over the LIB-357 base and strategic hill in Thingannyinaung area, around 20 junta soldiers were killed and some casualties were reported on the side of the revolutionary forces as well. The junta regime has been launching aerial attacks and heavy artillery attacks in the area, and thus special cautions have been taken.
Similarly, the battle at infantry battalion (IB)-97 in Kawkareik Township was also very intense, and the military council has reportedly been dropping incendiary bombs and cluster bombs from military jets.
“The revolutionary forces have closed all the roads to Kawkareik Township, and all the enemy’s reinforcement routes and supply routes have been blocked. The junta forces have been continuously dropping incendiary bombs from the air, targeting where the revolutionary forces might be present. Many houses in Kawkareik caught on fire due to the incendiary bombs. But we are hopefully waiting for the good news (that the resistance forces have occupied the battalion),” said the source.
