MYANMAR – With the possibility of a low storm in the Bay of Bengal this week, a flood warning for heavy rains in Mon State and Tanintharyi Division was issued by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management (MOHADM), National Unity Government (NUG).
MOHADM had issued the heavy rain warning till the end of July in Mon State and Tanintharyi Division on July 24.
“There is a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal and it may get stronger. It may reach low storm stage and move towards the coast of India,” announced MOHADM.
However, there will be heavy rains in Mon State, Kayin State, Rakhine State, Shan State, Tanintharyi Division, Yagon Division and Bago Division due to the storm.
“We couldn’t prepare for the flood last week and the people suffered a lot. It won’t be easy for us if the heavy rain continues,” said a local woman from Thiri Mingalar Ward, Mawlamyine Town.
MOHADM warned the people of Mon State, Tanintharyi Division and Southern and Eastern Shan State to be prepared for the flood and landslides due to the current weather conditions.
Mawlamyine, Paung and Chaungsone towns from Mon State faced flood the other day. Three children were killed in a flood in Mawlamyine and a man was also lost in the heavy flow of water falling from the mountains in Paung Township.
