YANGON DIVISION – The local drivers said that the junta soldiers and female traffic cops extorted money from drivers at the traffic light in Yangon.
The car owner said that the junta soldiers, police, and traffic cops extorted the money as they acted like they were checking the car while we were in a traffic jam. Previously, only male traffic cops extorted the money, but now female traffic cops also extorted the money in many ways.
An eyewitness said that two junta traffic cops sneaked near a gas station near an orthopedic hospital in Kyimyindaing Township this morning (May 18) to extort the money. They extorted the money at the corner of Batahtaung Pagoda Road and Maharbandula Road while they were checking the cars. They also extorted in front of a public toilet over the Thein Phyu traffic light, on the Bogyoke road, at 45th Street.
There was one saloon car named (6N-9166) and two traffic cops’ motorcycles. The saloon was parked between 39th Street and Satekanthar Street, and one traffic cop got off the car and sneaked around. There were checks of cars and bicycles at the Narnattaw Skyway, which is Baho Road, Kamaryut Township, and Hledan Township.
“The junta officially fined 5,000 MMK for the car without a license plate, but we have to bribe the traffic cops from 10,000 MMK to 50,000 MMK,” said a driver.
