YANGON DIVISION – The junta has withdrawn their armed troops, stationed as security in front of the Maha Bandula Park and City Hall of Yangon’s Downtown since the coup, on the last week of July, according to Yangon residents.
Civilians were not allowed to pass through the area for months, during which the junta security forces were stationed inside and outside of city hall where they built barricades and bunkers.
Though the reason for junta backing down their troops is not known, residents concluded that the junta seems to be deploying their manpower into the central intersections of Yangon.
Currently, not all barricades have been removed, and civilians still cannot pass through the area, even after security forces at the security points outside of the city hall were removed. The junta police, however, are still stationed inside the city hall.
Regardless of the junta posting strict security forces around the city center, Yangon Urban Guerrilla Revolutionary Forces often carried out attacks in the vicinity.
