MANDALAY DIVISION- The source from the Ministry of Construction said that the road engineers were prosecuted for not knowing that a military vehicle had been hit by a landmine on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway last Friday (March 8).
On the morning of March 8, a military vehicle, rode by Captain Kyaw Thura Paing of the Magway Based 88th Division’s Terrorist Military Council and troops who came to take the soldier’s ethics test, was attacked with (a series of) eight landmines at milepost 320 of the Yangon-Mandalay Highway.
In the report of the Military Council, there had been a mine explosion at Mile 320 of Yangon-Mandalay Expressway, in Nahtogyi Township, Mandalay Division, at around 8:10 a.m. A group of 16 soldiers from the 88th Magwe Division, led by Captain Kyaw Thura Paing, were returning from a soldier’s ethics test in a military vehicle when they were attacked by three landmines on the way. The windshield mirror of the car was shuttered and two unexploded mines were reported found. The road engineers did not know about the incident until the evening of March 8 and were prosecuted later.
“The head officer of the road construction was at the award ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw, and was prosecuted for not knowing about the mine explosion at mile 320,” said a source from Nay Pyi Taw.
Currently, the military is working to tighten security along the Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw-Mandalay expressway.
