RAKHINE STATE – According to the local people, the Arakan Army (AA) has completely captured the town of Ramree on Thursday (March 7), and it is the first time the AA has captured a town in the southern region of Rakhine State, according to local news sources.
The Arakan Army has not officially announced when and how they captured Ramree.
The local people are confirming that the AA has captured Ramree, and a person close to Ramree news said, “It is true that the AA captured Ramree today (March 7). We have to ask AA officials for details. We are still investigating.”
In order to occupy Ramree, the Arakan Army has been launching assaults since December 18, 2023. There has been an offensive attack on the junta council troops, and the AA has been blocking and attacking the junta council columns that came to reinforce with weapons and ammunition.
The coup military council provided air support to the last remaining military council battalion on Thane Mountain in Ramree City. In addition, the junta troops provided heavy weapon support from landing vessels/Navy ships while the junta air force delivered ammunition, manpower and food.
The local people are saying that they were able to completely attack the last remaining military council battalion on Thane Mountain because AA completely cut off the convoys that are trying to supply the food and ammunition from the junta council’s army.
AA has captured nine cities from the junta council in Rakhine region, including Ramree city. AA said that they are trying their best to capture the towns of Butheetaung, Maungdaw and Rathetaung in the northern region of Rakhine State.
AA has also warned the junta council battalions in Rakhine State to surrender and warned that if they do not surrender, all the junta council battalions will be attacked without leaving a single one.
