TANINTHARYI DIVISION – The junta council soldiers set fire to houses in Akani Village, Yebyu Township, on Monday afternoon (August 14), according to residents.
The junta soldiers took this action following a battle with PDF comrades near the village. “We saw the rising smoke and also heard that around 30 houses were set on fire,” said a resident.
Residents couldn’t return to the village, and the exact number of affected houses couldn’t be confirmed. Also at around 4 p.m., the sound of heavy artillery shells and small weapons could be heard around Akani Village.
This junta column launched an offensive in Na Bu Le Region and the vicinity since August 8 and have also been abducting civilians as hostages.
Due to the junta troops and PDF comrades’ clashes, civilians from approximately eight villages are fleeing. On August 11 and 12, the junta column that arrived at Wa Zwan Taw Village looted buildings in the village and set fire to two houses and one tent.
