TANINTHARYI DIVISION – In Yephyu township, U Kyaw Win, a man suffering from mental illness, was arrested and beaten to death by the village administrator and the Pyu Saw Htee group for no reason, according to residents.
On April 25th, at around 6:00 p.m., U Win Kyaw, a mentally ill resident of Thabut Chuang Village, was arrested and taken away from his home by members of the Pyu Saw Htee, saying they needed to be examined. After being abducted, on April 26th at around 8:00 p.m., U Win Kyaw, who was unconscious due to severe injuries, was brought to his home by the Pyu Saw Htee group on a motorcycle. His family members took him to the Kanpauk Hospital during the night, but he died of his injuries at the hospital.
“On the day U Win Kyaw was arrested, his mother went to take her son back but Pyu Saw Htee’s team did not release him. They said that they would examine and send him back. We found out that his mother also came back alone. When U Win Kyaw was arrested, he was in good condition. He was unconscious when they brought him in the next day. When they ask for help from the village cars to take him to the hospital, no one dares to help. After that, they put him in the bike’s sidecar and went to the hospital overnight. They went to the naval hospital first. The Navy transferred to the Kanpauk hospital. When he arrived at the hospital, he died because his injuries were so severe,” a resident said.
The governor of Thabut Chaung, Nuam Gyi, threatened the family members not to spread the news of U Win Kyaw’s death. And he said that he would cover the expenses of the funeral. It is reported that U Win Kyaw’s body was buried in the Thabut Chaung village cemetery on the afternoon of April 27th.
